The 14th Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission announced on Mar. 16 that it has begun the process of filling the County Court Judgeship position left vacant by the retirement of County Court Judge Shane Vann.
This announcement is important as it marks the next step in selecting a new judge for the county court, which plays a key role in handling local legal matters and ensuring the administration of justice in the community.
According to the commission, four individuals have applied for consideration: Alicia Carothers, Blair Daffin, Laurie Hughes, and Chelsea Stewart. The commission will review their applications before conducting interviews.
Interviews are scheduled for Friday, March 27, beginning at 1 p.m., Central Daylight Time, at the office of Attorney Waylon Graham. Members of the commission will meet at 12:30 p.m. to address preliminary issues before starting interviews. The public is invited to observe or listen to both the preliminary meeting and interviews by attending in person at 537 Harmon Ave., Panama City, Florida.
The selection process follows requirements set forth by the Governor’s request as well as provisions in the Florida Constitution and Florida Statutes. The commission’s actions ensure transparency and public participation during this judicial appointment.
