Attorney General James Uthmeier’s Office of Statewide Prosecution has filed an additional charge against a man already facing allegations of human trafficking involving a minor. The new count of victim tampering comes after authorities intercepted letters from the defendant, Sky Skidmore, intended to intimidate the victim and others while he was in pretrial detention at Wakulla County Jail.

Skidmore sent three letters addressed to the victim, the victim’s mother, and his own mother. Attorney General Uthmeier stated, “This defendant, who is currently in pretrial detention for committing heinous acts of human trafficking against a minor, chose to escalate his terrible situation by sending letters to intimidate and deter the victim from testifying at trial.” He added that statewide prosecutors are committed to holding Skidmore accountable for his actions.

The charges against Skidmore were initially brought last year by the Office of Statewide Prosecution. These include human trafficking, lewd and lascivious battery, encouraging the sexual performance of a minor, and unlawful use of a two-way communications device. Skidmore remains in pretrial detention as Senior Assistant Statewide Prosecutor Guillermo Vallejo manages the case.
