Attorney General James Uthmeier has initiated an investigation into a “Pride Tea Dance” event that took place last month in Vero Beach, Florida. The focus of the inquiry is on Linda Moore, Vice Mayor of Vero Beach and owner of Kilted Mermaid, who allegedly advertised the event as “all ages welcome.” Concerns have been raised about adult performers engaging with children during the event, which could be in violation of Florida law.
“In Florida, we don’t sacrifice the innocence of children for the perversions of some demented adults,” stated Attorney General James Uthmeier. He explained that the Office of Statewide Prosecution is examining the nature and extent of exposure to children at this performance.
The state law in Florida aims to protect minors from sexualized content. Reports suggest that during the June 29 event, adult performers wore revealing costumes and interacted with young attendees.
Subpoenas have been issued to Moore and Kilted Mermaid demanding various documents. These include surveillance videos, employee schedules from June 28 to June 30, contracts or agreements related to performers at the venue on June 29, guest lists or records identifying attendees, details on security personnel responsible for age verification and admission control on that date, as well as any relevant policies regarding these matters.
The requested documents must be submitted by August 8 at 9:00 a.m.
A copy of the subpoena is available for public viewing.
