Attorney General James Uthmeier has announced the arrests of Herbert Davis III, Michael McCray, and Tyrone Howard in connection with an organized retail theft scheme. The arrests followed a joint investigation by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of Statewide Prosecution.

According to authorities, the suspects are accused of burglarizing athletic footwear stores at Jensen Beach Mall on October 21, 2025, a mall in Georgia on November 7, 2025, and Volusia Mall in Daytona Beach on November 17, 2025. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the defendants climbing onto store roofs using ladders and entering by cutting holes in the ceilings.

The group allegedly stole hundreds of sneakers valued at more than $70,000. After the incident at Jensen Beach Mall, two of the suspects attempted another burglary in Daytona Beach where they were apprehended by local police.

Charges against the defendants include burglary causing over $1,000 in damage, grand theft causing damage over $1,000, possession of burglary tools while masked, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. If convicted, each could face up to life imprisonment in the Florida Department of Corrections.

Senior Assistant Statewide Prosecutor Chris Olowin will handle prosecution for this case.

Attorney General Uthmeier stated: “Florida law enforcement and our statewide prosecutors are taking the fight against retail theft to the next level. We will leverage all necessary tools to keep prices low for Floridians and create an environment that allows businesses to thrive.”

Recently, Attorney General Uthmeier also announced the creation of a Retail Theft Special Investigative Task Force aimed at removing jurisdictional barriers so prosecutors can pursue more serious charges.
