Kemmye Jimbryl Watson, a 29-year-old resident of Belle Glade, has been sentenced to three years and ten months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell handed down the sentence in Fort Myers and ordered Watson to forfeit the firearm involved in the offense. Watson entered a guilty plea on March 25, 2025.
Court records indicate that on August 1, 2024, in Lehigh Acres, Watson sold a pistol for $500. At that time, he had several previous felony convictions including aggravated assault with a firearm, trespass while armed, and robbery by sudden snatching. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The investigation was conducted by the Fort Myers Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan prosecuted the case.
The prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department of Justice launched an updated violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021, which emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting organizations focused on violence prevention, prioritizing targeted enforcement efforts, and tracking outcomes.
