Nelson Omar Aguilar-Villalobos, a 21-year-old from Oakland, California, has been sentenced to five years in prison for conspiracy to distribute, receive, and possess child pornography. This decision follows his guilty plea. The announcement was made by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Court records indicate that Aguilar-Villalobos engaged with others on social media concerning the exchange of child pornography. He specifically sought access to materials depicting adults in sexual acts with prepubescent children. After serving his sentence, he will be under supervised release for five years.
U.S. Attorney Heekin stated: “There is no greater responsibility than the protection of our most vulnerable, our children. Thanks to the outstanding work of our federal and state law enforcement partners in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Marshals Service, and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, this sick individual was stopped before he could victimize more children. My office will continue to work tirelessly to investigate and aggressively prosecute those who commit these heinous crimes.”
Nicholas Ingegno from Homeland Security Investigations emphasized the significance of addressing online predators: “This sentence underscores the critical importance of finding and holding these online predators to account for the evil they perpetuate online against children.”
Sheriff Walt McNeil commented on agency collaboration: “This case represents what’s possible when agencies unite with a common mission.”
Greg Leljedal from the United States Marshals Service reaffirmed their commitment: “The United States Marshals Service stands committed to working with our law enforcement partners to apprehend the heinous offenders who attempt to prey on our Nation’s most vulnerable population.”
The conviction resulted from a joint investigation by the Department of Homeland Security and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, aided by the United States Marshal Service. Assistant United States Attorney Meredith L. Steer prosecuted this case.
The initiative falls under Operation Take Back America and Project Safe Childhood—nationwide efforts led by various government bodies aimed at combating illegal activities including child exploitation.
