Christopher George Montgomery, a 30-year-old from Port Saint Lucie, has been sentenced to four years and nine months in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell in Fort Myers. In addition to the prison term, Montgomery was ordered to forfeit the firearm and ammunition found during his arrest. He pleaded guilty to the charges on June 17, 2025.

Court records show that Montgomery was being sought after a county-wide alert related to previous alleged offenses. Law enforcement located his vehicle in DeSoto County, where he attempted to evade Arcadia Police Department officers by fleeing first in his car and then on foot when his vehicle became stuck on an embankment. Officers retraced his escape route and discovered a loaded Glock pistol in a drainage culvert along his path. A loaded extended magazine for the Glock was also recovered from his vehicle.

Because Montgomery is a convicted felon, he is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The investigation involved the Arcadia Police Department, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Mark Morgan prosecuted the case.

According to officials, this prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, which is described as “a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.” The initiative combines efforts from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
