Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed a lawsuit against Planned Parenthood, alleging the organization misled patients about the safety of chemical abortion drugs. The legal action was announced from Tallahassee on November 6, 2025.

“It is vile that Planned Parenthood cares more about lining their pockets than providing women with factual information about the health risks of chemical abortion drugs,” said Attorney General James Uthmeier. “When it comes to health and safety in Florida, we won’t tolerate blatant lies using fabricated medical ‘facts’ that have no scientific basis.”

The lawsuit asserts that Planned Parenthood made false claims regarding the safety of abortion drugs, including statements comparing their risk to common over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol. According to the attorney general’s office, these claims have been disproven by studies and expert opinions, but Planned Parenthood continues to use them in its communications.

The complaint also notes that chemical abortions generate significant revenue for Planned Parenthood and alleges this financial incentive contributes to continued dissemination of misleading information. Additionally, the lawsuit criticizes the distribution of abortion pills via mail without requiring an in-person consultation.

According to the filing, these actions violate both the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and the Florida RICO Act. The state seeks statutory penalties, punitive damages, and court orders aimed at preventing further deceptive conduct.

The full text of the lawsuit can be found as filed in the First Judicial Circuit.
