Christopher Davies, a 31-year-old resident of Cape Coral, has pleaded guilty to making threats against the President of the United States. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe. Davies could face up to five years in federal prison. The date for sentencing has not been determined.

Court documents show that Davies wrote a letter to an official at the Charlotte Correctional Institution expressing his intent to kill President Donald Trump. In the letter, he stated that he had “orchestrated the most daring Presidential assassination that this country has ever seen,” and added, “Donald J. Trump must perish.” When questioned by Secret Service agents, Davies admitted to writing the letter and said he wanted to kill the President. He also told agents that if President Trump were near him, he would try to kill him with his bare hands.

The United States Secret Service investigated the case, and Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey is prosecuting it.

The incident occurred previously but was not made public at that time due to a government shutdown. The press release was posted after normal operations resumed.
