A Florida resident has taken legal action against a major utility company, alleging negligence that led to serious injuries. On February 20, 2026, Robert Subranni filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the 6th Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, against Duke Energy Florida, LLC. The lawsuit claims that the company’s negligence in maintaining a streetlight caused him to suffer significant harm.

According to the complaint, Subranni resides in Pinellas County and encountered a hazardous situation on April 19, 2025. He alleges that as he exited his residence’s rear door in Saint Petersburg, he was temporarily blinded by an excessively bright utility streetlight located along an alley behind his property. This sudden glare reportedly caused him to fall and sustain severe injuries. Subranni asserts that Duke Energy had installed or maintained this streetlight and was responsible for its operation and compliance with local lighting codes.

The plaintiff further contends that Duke Energy was aware of the hazardous condition posed by the streetlight prior to his accident. He claims that the company received notice about excessive glare and light trespass violating local code requirements but failed to take corrective measures. As a result of this alleged negligence, Subranni suffered bodily injury leading to pain and suffering, disability, physical impairment, mental anguish, and other damages.

Subranni accuses Duke Energy of breaching its duty of care by failing to properly shield or adjust the streetlight’s brightness after being notified of the issue. The complaint outlines several specific failures on Duke Energy’s part: not investigating or correcting the known hazard promptly; not adhering to applicable lighting standards; allowing a dangerous condition to persist unreasonably; and failing to warn residents about the potential danger.

In seeking justice from the court, Subranni demands compensation exceeding $50,001 for damages incurred due to Duke Energy’s alleged negligence. He requests a jury trial for all triable issues and seeks interest and costs associated with the case.

Representing Robert Subranni is attorney Keven Leveille from Morgan & Morgan Tampa P.A., while no information about defense attorneys is provided in the document. Case Number 26-001143-CI.
