A Florida resident has taken legal action against a major power company, alleging negligence that led to serious injuries. Christopher Lovett filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on November 19, 2025, accusing Florida Power & Light Company of failing to maintain safe conditions at a property they control.

The case centers around an incident that occurred on December 3, 2024. Lovett claims he was injured when he tripped over an exposed power cord or line while visiting a property located at 10264 Crosswind Rd., Boca Raton, FL. According to the complaint, Lovett was a guest at the premises and therefore classified as an invitee. The plaintiff alleges that Florida Power & Light Company owned and maintained control over the power lines or cords present at the location.

Lovett’s lawsuit asserts that Florida Power & Light Company had a duty to ensure safety at the premises but failed in several key areas. The complaint states that the company did not carry out their work safely, resulting in a hazardous condition—specifically, an exposed power cord or line—on the property. Furthermore, it is alleged that the company did not adequately warn Lovett or other invitees about this unsafe condition and failed to remedy it in a timely manner.

As detailed in the court documents, Lovett sustained serious and permanent injuries due to his fall over the exposed power line. These injuries have resulted in ongoing pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, lost earnings capacity, and aggravation of pre-existing conditions. The plaintiff argues these losses are either permanent or continuing and will affect him into the future.

In seeking justice from the court, Lovett demands judgment against Florida Power & Light Company for damages exceeding $50,000. Additionally, he requests any other relief deemed appropriate by the court and has called for a jury trial on all triable issues.
