In a dramatic legal showdown, a Florida resident has taken on one of the state’s largest supermarket chains, alleging negligence after a slip-and-fall incident. Shaquille Burroughs filed a complaint against Publix Super Markets, Inc. in the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, on November 26, 2025. The case revolves around an incident that occurred on December 4, 2024, at a Publix location in Lantana.

According to the complaint, Burroughs was visiting the Publix store located at 1589 Lantana Road when he slipped on a clear liquid in the freezer aisle and fell. The lawsuit claims that Publix had either actual or constructive knowledge of this hazardous condition but failed to address it appropriately. “Defendant owed a non-delegable duty of care to maintain the premises in a reasonably safe condition,” states the complaint. Burroughs argues that Publix breached this duty by not maintaining safe conditions and failing to warn customers about potential dangers.

The plaintiff accuses Publix of several specific acts of negligence: inadequate maintenance of the premises, insufficient employee training and supervision to handle such hazards, lack of policies for identifying and correcting dangerous conditions, and failure to warn patrons like Burroughs about these risks. As a result of this alleged negligence, Burroughs claims he suffered multiple injuries leading to pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of earnings capacity, and other significant life disruptions.

Burroughs is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 for his injuries and losses. He demands compensation for medical expenses, loss of past and future earnings, as well as other related costs incurred due to the incident. Furthermore, he has requested a jury trial to resolve these issues.

Representing Burroughs are attorneys Alexander R. Hunt and Callina B. Harmon from The Injury Firm based in Fort Lauderdale. The Case ID is: 502025CA012361 XXXAMB Div: AD.
