A Fort Lauderdale resident, Ian Zachary Adams, 29, has been arraigned on charges related to the distribution, production, and possession of child sexual abuse material. The indictment alleges that Adams used several anonymous social media profiles to upload and share content depicting children between the ages of two and 16. Authorities also reported finding a screen recording on one of Adams’s devices showing a video chat in which a 10-year-old child engaged in sexually explicit activity at his request.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida, Special Agent in Charge Brett D. Skiles of the FBI Miami Field Office, and Sheriff Gregory Tony of the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
FBI Miami, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office are handling the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Camille Smith is prosecuting the case.
“An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law,” according to officials.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to find and prosecute those who exploit children online and works to identify victims.
