Kimani Brennen Fletcher, a 26-year-old resident of Covington, Georgia, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in federal court in Tampa, Florida. According to the United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe, Fletcher could face up to 20 years in prison.
Court documents state that between April 15 and April 22, 2024, Fletcher’s co-conspirators called victims while falsely claiming to be members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The callers told victims they had outstanding warrants and needed to pay money to avoid arrest. Fletcher then posed as a bail bondsman and collected money from these individuals in the Middle District of Florida. After receiving the funds, he delivered them to his co-conspirators. Authorities say that Fletcher obtained about $40,800 through this scheme.
The investigation was conducted by the United States Secret Service and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel is prosecuting the case.
