In a recent legal filing, a couple has taken legal action against two major entities following an unfortunate incident at a retail store. Alisha Cooke and her husband James Cooke have filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County on November 17, 2025, targeting Home Depot U.S.A., Inc., and Northwoods Limited Partnership. The lawsuit stems from injuries sustained by Ms. Cooke during a visit to one of Home Depot’s locations.

The case details an incident that occurred on June 9, 2024, when Alisha Cooke visited the Home Depot store located at 2070 Tyrone Boulevard North Street in St. Petersburg, Florida. According to the complaint, while navigating through the store’s aisles, Ms. Cooke stepped aside to let another customer pass and slipped on a puddle of water mixed with algae on the concrete floor. This slip resulted in a violent fall causing serious bodily injuries to Ms. Cooke.

The plaintiffs allege that both Home Depot and Northwoods Limited Partnership were negligent in maintaining safe premises for their patrons. The complaint accuses these entities of failing to ensure proper irrigation systems to prevent algae formation and not adequately warning customers about potential hazards like standing water and slippery surfaces. “The hazardous condition was caused by an algae-covered puddle or other substance,” states the document, emphasizing that this made the store’s floor extremely dangerous.

As part of their legal pursuit, Alisha and James Cooke are seeking damages for personal injuries sustained due to alleged negligence by both defendants. They claim that these injuries have led to permanent physical harm, mental anguish, loss of income capacity, medical expenses, and more. Furthermore, James Cooke is pursuing compensation for loss of consortium due to his wife’s injuries affecting their marital relationship.

The plaintiffs demand a jury trial and seek judgment against both Home Depot U.S.A., Inc., and Northwoods Limited Partnership for damages including interest and court costs as per Florida Statutes § 57.041. Representing them is Garvin Injury Law with attorneys Josette Nelson and Leland E. Garvin spearheading their case.

This case is presided over under Case Number: 25-006496-CI.
