Michelle Nicole Marie Brannon, a 36-year-old resident of Lake County, has pleaded guilty to charges of making a materially false statement to a federal agency and providing contraband to a federal prisoner. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe. Brannon could face up to five years in federal prison for each offense. A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.
Court records indicate that on April 27, 2025, Brannon visited her brother at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Sumter County. During the screening process before visitation, she told a correctional officer that she did not have any narcotics with her. Authorities later discovered that she provided her brother with buprenorphine, which is classified as a Schedule III controlled substance. Federal regulations prohibit inmates from possessing controlled substances within prison facilities.
The investigation into this case is being conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk Watson is prosecuting the case.
