A federal grand jury in Miami has indicted Juan Perez Santis, a 40-year-old Mexican national, for unlawfully reentering the United States after deportation. Previously convicted of sexual battery on a minor, Perez Santis appeared in federal court today.
The indictment reveals that Perez Santis was deported from the United States on three occasions: March 21, 2002; June 20, 2007; and October 2, 2007. Authorities discovered he had returned to the country without authorization around January 2, 2022.
Court documents indicate that in 2024, following his previous removals and alleged return to the U.S., Perez Santis was convicted in Florida for sexual battery on a minor under the age of 12 and three related charges. He is currently serving a ten-year sentence in state prison.
U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida and acting Field Office Director Juan Agudelo of ICE’s Enforcement Removal Operations Prosecutions Unit Miami announced the charges.
ICE-ERO conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Audrey Pence Tomanelli and Andrea Montes are handling prosecution duties.
It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
