A serious legal battle is unfolding in Palm Beach County, Florida, where a mother has taken action against a major retail corporation and one of its managers. On November 4, 2025, Zipporah Morris-Scott filed an amended complaint in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit against Angel Guzman and Sam’s East, Inc., doing business as Sam’s Club #8157. The lawsuit stems from an incident involving her minor daughter, Aniya Jade Simmonds, who allegedly suffered injuries due to negligence at the store.

According to the court documents, Morris-Scott accuses Sam’s Club and its manager Angel Guzman of failing to maintain safe premises at their West Palm Beach location. The complaint details that on November 9, 2023, Aniya Jade Simmonds visited the store with her grandmother to purchase items for her Student Body Club. As they exited the store, Aniya slipped on a wet floor near the exit doors—an area allegedly not marked with any warning signs or barricades. This fall resulted in significant injuries to Aniya.

The plaintiff argues that both Guzman and Sam’s Club breached their duty of care by not ensuring the safety of their premises. The complaint states that Guzman failed to inspect the floors and neglected to warn customers about potential hazards such as wet floors. Furthermore, it alleges that Guzman did not properly instruct or supervise employees regarding safety protocols. Similarly, Sam’s Club is accused of failing to implement adequate inspection policies and training procedures for its staff to prevent such incidents.

Morris-Scott seeks damages exceeding $50,000 for her daughter’s pain and suffering, medical expenses, and other related losses. She also demands compensation for her own loss of income and companionship due to her daughter’s injuries. The lawsuit calls for a jury trial to resolve these issues.

Representing Morris-Scott is attorney Edrick E. Barnes from the Law Office of Edrick E. Barnes P.A., based in West Palm Beach. The case is filed under Case Number 502025CA011571XXXAMB Div: AE in front of Judge Michael A. Caruso.
