A Nicaraguan national, Marco Orlando Vado, 66, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after previously being removed. The sentencing took place on August 26 before Senior U.S. District Judge Paul C. Huck.

Vado pleaded guilty to illegal reentry and received a 60-month sentence that will run consecutive to a separate 72-month term he was given in June 2024 in Broward County for violating probation related to a drug trafficking conviction. He had earlier pleaded guilty in Miami-Dade County to attempted sexual battery of a minor under 12.

Court records indicate that Vado was first encountered by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in November 2009 after his conviction in Broward County for trafficking more than 400 grams of cocaine, which resulted in six years of probation. He was deported to Nicaragua on December 23, 2009.

Despite this removal, Vado was again found in the United States on April 22, 2022, following his arrest by the North Miami Beach Police Department for attempted sexual battery of a minor under the age of twelve.

U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida and Field Officer Director Garrett Ripa of ICE Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO), Miami Field Office, announced the sentencing.

The case was investigated by ICE/ERO Miami Field Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph A. Cooley.
