Ronald Pate Newman, a 26-year-old resident of Youngstown, Ohio, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on three counts of producing child pornography. The charges were announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Newman made his initial appearance before United States Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry at the United States Courthouse in Gainesville, Florida. His trial is set for January 14, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., to be presided over by Chief District Court Judge Allen Winsor.
If found guilty, Newman faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and up to 30 years in prison for each count.
The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations along with the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Christie S. Utt is prosecuting the case.
“An indictment is merely an allegation by a grand jury that a defendant has committed a violation of federal criminal law and is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial,” according to the announcement.
This prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
