In a gripping legal battle, a Pinellas County resident is taking on a prominent Florida corporation over allegations of negligence that resulted in significant personal injury. Katherine Bazzett filed a complaint against Healthpeak Properties, doing business as Bayfront Medical Plaza, in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in and for Pinellas County, Florida, on February 25, 2026.

The lawsuit stems from an incident that occurred on June 4, 2025, when Bazzett was receiving treatment at Bayfront Medical Plaza located at 700 6th Street South in St. Petersburg. According to the complaint, while using the bathroom facilities at the medical plaza, a metal box used for trash disposal unexpectedly detached from the wall and struck Bazzett’s foot. The plaintiff claims that this caused her severe injury and subsequent suffering. “Defendant knew or had reason to know the metal box was a hazard,” asserts Bazzett in her filing, pointing out that the box had previously fallen from its mooring before her unfortunate encounter.

Bazzett accuses Healthpeak Properties of failing to uphold their duty of care by not properly securing the metal box and neglecting to provide adequate warnings about the potential danger it posed. The complaint highlights several breaches: failure to eliminate the hazard, failure to restrict access to the hazardous area, and failure to warn patrons verbally or visually about the risk. As a result of these alleged failures, Bazzett has suffered bodily harm leading to pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, lost earnings capacity, and aggravation of pre-existing conditions.

The plaintiff is seeking monetary damages exceeding $75,000 exclusive of interest and costs. She demands compensation for her injuries along with attorney’s fees and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court. Additionally, Bazzett has requested a jury trial to resolve these issues under applicable jurisdictional laws.

Representing Katherine Bazzett is Christopher Waggener from Waggener Law PLLC based in St. Petersburg. The case is presided over by Judge Katherine Bazzett under Case Number 26-001235-CI.
