In a compelling legal battle unfolding in Pinellas County, Florida, a local resident has taken action against a prominent business establishment following an unfortunate incident. Melvin Eugene Collins filed a complaint on October 22, 2025, in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit against Feather Sound Food Market, LLC. The lawsuit arises from an alleged negligence that resulted in significant personal injury to Collins.

The complaint details that on February 25, 2025, Collins was visiting Feather Sound Square located at 2325 Ulmerton Road in Clearwater when he suffered a slip and fall accident due to an unsecured drain cover in the restroom. As a business invitee at the time of the incident, Collins claims that Feather Sound Food Market failed to maintain safe premises and neglected their duty to warn him of potential hazards. The lawsuit accuses Feather Sound of several breaches of duty including failing to maintain the restroom floor safely and not warning patrons about hazardous conditions like the detached drain cover. According to Collins’ attorneys, these failures constitute negligence under Florida law.

Collins asserts that as a direct result of this negligence, he sustained severe injuries leading to pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, loss of enjoyment of life, and incurred medical expenses. He also alleges loss of earnings and potential aggravation of pre-existing conditions due to the accident. The plaintiff argues that some injuries are permanent or will continue into the future causing ongoing impairment.

The legal filing seeks damages exceeding $50,000 exclusive of interest and costs for these alleged harms. Furthermore, it includes a claim regarding medical expenses under Feather Sound’s commercial general liability policy with Evanston Insurance Company which purportedly provides up to $5,000 per person for such incidents. Despite this coverage being available under policy number 3AA795201, Collins contends that Feather Sound has not fulfilled its obligation by paying out these medical expense limits.

Represented by attorney Alan Bulnes from Mickey Keenan P.A., Collins demands judgment for damages along with costs and interest against Feather Sound Food Market. Additionally, he requests attorney fees and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court while insisting on his right to trial by jury on all issues raised.

The Case Number is: 25-005933-CI in Pinellas County’s civil division court system where both parties will present their arguments concerning responsibility for maintaining safe premises for customers like Mr. Collins who visit establishments expecting reasonable safety measures are adhered to diligently.
