A recent court filing reveals a dramatic incident involving an elevator malfunction that has led to legal action. On November 25, 2025, Kendys Barrios filed a complaint in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, against Raymond James & Associates, Inc. The case centers around an alleged elevator accident that occurred on July 21, 2025.

According to the complaint, Kendys Barrios was visiting the property owned by Raymond James & Associates at 880 Carillon Parkway in St. Petersburg when she experienced a terrifying elevator malfunction. As Barrios attempted to ascend to a higher floor, the elevator allegedly began slamming down rapidly, causing her to fall and sustain injuries. The lawsuit claims that these injuries resulted in significant physical and emotional distress for Barrios.

Barrios accuses Raymond James & Associates of negligence for failing to maintain their property in a safe condition. The complaint outlines several ways in which the company allegedly breached its duty of care: by not properly maintaining or inspecting the elevator, failing to ensure its safety before use, neglecting to warn Barrios of potential dangers, and not conducting timely inspections. The unsafe condition of the elevator is said to have existed long enough that Raymond James & Associates should have been aware of it.

The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 for bodily injury and other related losses such as pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses, and loss of earnings. Barrios argues that these damages are either permanent or ongoing and will continue into the future. In addition to financial compensation within the jurisdictional limits of the court, Barrios demands a jury trial.

Representing Kendys Barrios is attorney Matthew C. Scarborough from Scarborough Bicycle Accident Law based in Tampa. The case is identified with Case Number 25-006691-CI.
