A day at the beach turned into a nightmare when a poorly secured umbrella caused serious injuries to a visitor. Yuliya Shishkina-Simeon filed a complaint on October 29, 2025, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida, against Oceanside Beach Services, Inc., alleging negligence after an unsecured beach umbrella struck her in the face.
According to the complaint, Yuliya Shishkina-Simeon was enjoying a day at Delray Beach on September 14, 2025, when an improperly secured beach umbrella became airborne due to a gust of wind. The umbrella first hit another individual before striking Shishkina-Simeon with significant force. The lawsuit claims that Oceanside Beach Services, Inc., which operates various concession services renting beach equipment across Palm Beach County, failed in its duty to ensure the safety of its equipment. “Defendant owed a duty…to ensure that its Beach Umbrella were properly secured,” states the complaint. The plaintiff argues that this negligence resulted in her suffering from severe bodily injuries and mental anguish.
Shishkina-Simeon is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 for her injuries and associated losses. These include pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, loss of earnings and earning capacity, and aggravation of pre-existing conditions. She demands judgment against Oceanside Beach Services along with taxable costs and interest on liquidated damages. Additionally, she requests a jury trial for all triable issues.
The case is represented by Mark Packo from GED Lawyers LLP based in Boca Raton. The filing does not mention any defense attorneys or judges assigned to the case yet. The case ID is 502025CA011285XXXAMB.
