In a gripping legal battle that underscores the importance of safety and accountability, a Palm Beach County resident has filed a lawsuit against two major corporations following a severe injury incident. Elizabeth Floyd, through her attorney Juan-Carlos Andaluz from Wooster Law, lodged the complaint on September 11, 2025, in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida. The defendants named in this case are Macy’s Retail Holdings, LLC and Schindler Elevator Corporation.
The lawsuit stems from an incident that occurred on September 13, 2023, at a Macy’s department store located at 5700 Glades Road in Boca Raton, Florida. Elizabeth Floyd alleges that while she was a lawful business invitee at the store, she suffered grievous bodily harm due to sharp metal pieces protruding from an escalator step. These hazardous conditions reportedly led to significant injuries to her left foot and caused her to fall. According to the complaint, both Macy’s and Schindler had knowledge or should have had knowledge of these dangerous conditions but failed to take necessary actions to prevent such an accident.
Floyd’s legal team argues that Macy’s was responsible for maintaining the premises safely and ensuring that any concealed perils were addressed or communicated to patrons like Floyd. Similarly, Schindler Elevator Corporation is accused of failing to properly maintain the escalator despite being responsible for its management and safety. The complaint asserts that both companies breached their duties by not addressing or warning about the dangerous condition posed by the escalator’s protruding metal pieces.
The plaintiff seeks compensatory damages exceeding $100,000 for her injuries which include permanent bodily harm, pain and suffering, emotional trauma, loss of earnings capacity, among other damages. Additionally, Floyd demands that the court hold both corporations accountable for their negligence by taking jurisdiction over all parties involved and permitting any necessary amendments for a full determination of her rights.
Representing Elizabeth Floyd is attorney Juan-Carlos Andaluz from Wooster Law based in Pompano Beach. The case is filed under Case Number: 502025CA009308XXXAMB Div: AD with proceedings overseen by judges within Palm Beach County’s judicial circuit.
