A Florida resident has filed a lawsuit against two companies for negligence after suffering injuries from a ceiling collapse. The complaint was filed by Natalie Sumler in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida, on September 17, 2025, targeting Common Wealth Trust Services LLC and Philip Scott Management and Investments, LLC.
The lawsuit details that on August 16, 2024, Sumler was lawfully present at the premises located at 1007 Vine Avenue in Clearwater, Florida. While there, she sustained serious injuries when the ceiling collapsed on her. According to the complaint, both defendants were responsible for maintaining the property and ensuring it was safe for invitees like Sumler. The plaintiff alleges that the defendants failed to maintain or adequately inspect and repair the roofing and ceiling of the premises, creating a dangerous condition that led to her injuries.
Sumler’s legal team argues that both Common Wealth Trust Services LLC and Philip Scott Management and Investments had non-delegable duties to keep their property safe and warn of any known dangers. They claim these duties were breached due to negligence in maintenance and failure to correct hazardous conditions or provide adequate warnings about them. As a result of this alleged negligence, Sumler suffered permanent bodily injuries leading to pain, suffering, disability, mental anguish, loss of earnings capacity, medical expenses, and other damages.
The plaintiff is seeking damages exceeding $50,000 from each defendant for her physical injuries and associated losses. She demands compensation for past and future medical expenses, loss of earnings potential, transportation costs related to her treatment, as well as other out-of-pocket expenses incurred due to her injuries. Furthermore, she requests that all taxable costs be covered by the defendants along with any additional relief deemed appropriate by the court.
Representing Natalie Sumler is attorney Alexander J. Mendez from The Injury Firm based in Fort Lauderdale. The case is being heard under Case Number 25-005193-CI in Pinellas County Circuit Court.
