Royal Palm Beach Rehab, Corp., along with Certified Spine and Pain Care, LLC, and Dr. Edwin W. Maldonado, M.D., P.L., have filed a lawsuit that could have significant implications for medical equipment manufacturers and service providers. The complaint was lodged in the Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Palm Beach County, Florida on November 21, 2025, targeting AB Sciex LLC and Catalyst Lab Solutions, LLC as defendants.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages exceeding $50,000 following a fire incident at their premises located at 1049 S. State Rd. 7, Wellington, Florida. This fire occurred on November 24, 2023, and is alleged to have originated from a faulty fan within mass spectrometer equipment designed by AB Sciex LLC and maintained by Catalyst Lab Solutions, LLC. According to the plaintiffs’ claims, this equipment was installed without any substantial changes from its original design or manufacture by AB Sciex LLC.

The legal action includes several counts against the defendants. In Count I of the complaint against AB Sciex LLC, the plaintiffs allege strict liability due to defects in the design or manufacturing of the equipment that rendered it unreasonably dangerous and led to the fire causing significant damage including lost profits. “None of the Plaintiffs used the Equipment in any manner other than that reasonably foreseeable by AB Sciex LLC,” states the complaint.

In Count II against AB Sciex LLC again focuses on negligence claims. The plaintiffs argue that AB Sciex LLC had a duty of care to ensure their equipment did not pose a risk of fire when used in medical offices but breached this duty through negligent design or manufacturing practices.

Count III shifts focus onto Catalyst Lab Solutions, LLC for negligence related to their responsibilities for providing, installing, maintaining, and repairing the equipment at issue. The plaintiffs assert that Catalyst Lab Solutions failed in these duties leading directly to the hazardous conditions resulting in fire damage.

The plaintiffs are demanding judgments against both defendants for general and special damages which include compensation for lost profits along with costs and interest accrued due to this incident.
