A postal worker has filed a lawsuit after sustaining injuries from a fall on a homeowner’s driveway, claiming negligence on the part of the property owner. On November 24, 2025, Dawn Vest initiated legal proceedings against Eddie Dickey in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pinellas County, Florida.
The case revolves around an incident that occurred on December 11, 2023, when Dawn Vest, employed by the United States Postal Service and residing in Pinellas County, was delivering a package to Eddie Dickey’s residence at 2534 21st Place Southwest, Largo. During her visit, she tripped over an uneven and deteriorated section of the driveway. The complaint alleges that this hazardous condition resulted in significant injuries to Vest. The lawsuit contends that Dickey failed to maintain his property in a safe condition and neglected to warn Vest about the dangerous state of the driveway. “Defendant owed Plaintiff duties to maintain the premises in a reasonably safe condition,” states the complaint.
Vest’s legal action is based on premises liability, asserting that Dickey breached his duty of care by allowing hazardous conditions to persist without adequate warning or repair. The lawsuit details several alleged failures by Dickey: neglecting maintenance of the driveway surface which had become “uneven, irregular, raised, worn, cracked, broken,” failing to warn visitors about these dangers despite being aware or should have been aware of them through ordinary care. Additionally, it accuses him of not posting temporary barriers or warnings around known hazards and failing to inspect or correct these conditions despite having ample opportunity and means.
As a result of this alleged negligence, Vest claims she suffered extensive physical harm including permanent injury and disfigurement. She also cites ongoing pain and suffering along with financial losses due to medical expenses and lost earnings capacity. Consequently seeking damages exceeding $50,000 plus interest and costs as compensation for her injuries sustained from what she describes as preventable circumstances.
The case is being handled by attorney Jeanette O. Cardenas from Morgan & Morgan P.A., who submitted the filing electronically on behalf of Vest. The presiding judge over this matter has not been named yet but will be assigned under Case Number: 25-006665-CI.
