Two men from South Florida face charges of mail theft following their identification through public assistance. The charges stem from incidents on April 26 and April 28 at an apartment complex in Sunrise, Florida. Wilfredo Rivero, 31, was captured on surveillance footage forcibly opening a cluster of mailboxes and removing mail. Two days later, Rivero returned with Fernando Bernabe Rodriguez, 28, and both were seen prying open another set of mailboxes.

On May 9, CBS News Miami aired the surveillance video to aid the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) in identifying the suspects. This broadcast led to several tips being submitted to the USPIS national hotline, which helped identify Rivero and Rodriguez.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne of the Southern District of Florida and acting Inspector in Charge Bladismir Rojo of the USPIS. The investigation received substantial support from the public, with additional assistance from the Sunrise Police Department and Hialeah Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Killoran is handling the prosecution of this case.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

Further details about this case can be accessed on the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida website or through related court documents available on the District Court for the Southern District of Florida’s website under case number 25-cr-60134.
