A Tampa man, Robert Logan Shoecraft, III, has been charged with making threats to injure and kill a federal official and a family member. The United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida, Gregory W. Kehoe, announced that Shoecraft faces one count of interstate communication of a threat to injure and kill. If convicted, he could receive up to five years in federal prison.

According to the criminal complaint, Shoecraft allegedly called the office of a Member of the United States House of Representatives in May 2024 and left a threatening voicemail. The message included statements such as: “we’re coming for you, we’re gonna f***ing kill you,” and “we have f***ing guns too, you stupid c***.”

The complaint also states that on October 31, 2025, Shoecraft sent a direct message via social media to the wife of a federal official who serves as an Advisor to the President of the United States. The message read: “You and your husband will be dragged through the streets like Mussolini and his b**** after all this is done. This is our country, and they will make sure you and your husband suffer for what you’ve done. You have no idea what’s in store for you.”

Authorities emphasize that a complaint is only a formal charge and does not imply guilt. “A complaint is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation with assistance from the United States Capitol Police and the United States Secret Service. Assistant United States Attorney Lindsey Schmidt and Special Assistant United States Attorney Joseph Wheeler, III will prosecute the case.
