A Tampa man has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison for his role in a cocaine distribution scheme. U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday handed down the 10-year sentence to Daniel Vega Cabrera, age 42, after he pleaded guilty earlier this year to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy charges.
Court records indicate that an undercover operation by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office began in July 2023 when a deputy purchased cocaine from Joseph White, who was later identified as one of Vega Cabrera’s associates. The investigation revealed that both Vega Cabrera and Jose Pabon supplied White with cocaine for resale. Between July 20, 2023, and May 14, 2024, authorities determined that Vega Cabrera provided more than half a kilogram of cocaine to White.
Vega Cabrera received an enhanced penalty due to a previous federal conviction related to drug distribution.
White and Pabon have also admitted guilt in connection with the case and are awaiting sentencing.
“This case was investigated by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Newman.”
