The U.S. Trustee Program has announced that debtor audits will resume starting February 20, 2026. The program had previously paused these audits but is now preparing to restart them as part of its oversight responsibilities in bankruptcy cases.

Debtor audits are conducted to ensure accuracy and prevent fraud in bankruptcy filings. The resumption aims to reinforce the integrity of the bankruptcy process.

According to the U.S. Trustee Program, “Debtor audits are an important tool for detecting fraud and abuse in the bankruptcy system.” The program also stated, “We are committed to maintaining public confidence in the integrity of the bankruptcy process.”

The decision comes after a period during which audits were suspended. The U.S. Trustee Program oversees administration and enforcement within the federal bankruptcy system.
